CHICAGO (AP) ? Lance Armstrong finally cracked.

Not while expressing deep remorse or regrets, though there was plenty of that in Friday night's second part of Armstrong's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

It wasn't over the $75 million in sponsorship deals that evaporated over the course of two days, or having to walk away from the Livestrong cancer charity he founded and called his "sixth child." It wasn't even about his lifetime ban from competition, though he said that was more than he deserved.

It was another bit of collateral damage that Armstrong said he wasn't prepared to deal with.

"I saw my son defending me and saying, 'That's not true. What you're saying about my dad is not true,'" Armstrong recalled.

"That's when I knew I had to tell him."

Armstrong was near tears at that point, referring to 13-year-old Luke, the oldest of his five children. He blinked, looked away from Winfrey, and with his lip trembling, struggled to compose himself.

It came just past the midpoint of the hourlong program on Winfrey's OWN network. In the first part, broadcast Thursday, the disgraced cycling champion admitted using performance-enhancing drugs when he won seven straight Tour de France titles.

Critics said he hadn't been contrite enough in the first half of the interview, which was taped Monday in Austin, but Armstrong seemed to lose his composure when Winfrey zeroed in on the emotional drama involving his personal life.

"What did you say?" Winfrey asked.

"I said, 'Listen, there's been a lot of questions about your dad. My career. Whether I doped or did not dope. I've always denied that and I've always been ruthless and defiant about that. You guys have seen that. That's probably why you trusted me on it.' Which makes it even sicker," Armstrong said.

"And uh, I told Luke, I said," and here Armstrong paused for a long time to collect himself, "I said, 'Don't defend me anymore. Don't.'

"He said OK. He just said, 'Look, I love you. You're my dad. This won't change that."

Winfrey also drew Armstrong out on his ex-wife, Kristin, whom he claimed knew just enough about both the doping and lying to ask him to stop. He credited her with making him promise that his comeback in 2009 would be drug-free.

"She said to me, 'You can do it under one condition: That you never cross that line again,'" Armstrong recalled.

"The line of drugs?" Winfrey asked.

"Yes. And I said, 'You've got a deal,'" he replied. "And I never would have betrayed that with her."

A U.S. Anti-Doping Agency report that exposed Armstrong as the leader of an elaborate doping scheme on his U.S. Postal Service cycling team included witness statements from at least three former teammates who said Kristin Armstrong participated in or at least knew about doping on the teams and knew team code names for EPO kept in her refrigerator. Postal rider Jonathan Vaughters testified that she handed riders cortisone pills wrapped in foil.

Armstrong said in the first part of the interview that he had stayed clean in the comeback, a claim that runs counter to the USADA report.

And that wasn't the only portion of the interview likely to rile anti-doping officials.

Winfrey asked Armstrong about a "60 Minutes Sports" interview in which USADA chief executive Travis Tygart said a representative of the cyclist had offered a donation that the agency turned down.

"Were you trying to pay off USADA?" she asked.

"No, that's not true," he replied, repeating, "That is not true."

Winfrey asks the question three more times, in different forms.

"That is not true," he insisted.

USADA spokeswoman Annie Skinner replied in a statement: "We stand by the facts both in the reasoned decision and in the '60 Minutes' interview."

Armstrong has talked with USADA officials, and a meeting with Tygart near the Denver airport reportedly ended in an argument over the possibility of modifying the lifetime ban. A person familiar with those conversations said Armstrong could provide information that might get his ban reduced to eight years. By then, he would be 49. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was discussing a confidential matter.

After retiring from cycling in 2011, Armstrong returned to triathlons, where he began his professional career as a teenager, and he has told people he's desperate to get back.

Winfrey asked if that was why he agreed to the interview.

"If you're asking me, do I want to compete again ... the answer is hell, yes," Armstrong said. "I'm a competitor. It's what I've done my whole life. I love to train. I love to race. I love to toe the line ? and I don't expect it to happen."

Yet just three questions later, a flash of the old Armstrong emerged.

"Frankly," he said, "this may not be the most popular answer, but I think I deserve it. Maybe not right now ... (but) if I could go back to that time and say, 'OK, you're trading my story for a six-month suspension?' Because that's what people got."

"What other people got?" Winfrey asked.

"What everybody got," he replied.

Eleven former Armstrong teammates, including several who previously tested positive for PEDs, testified about the USPS team's doping scheme in exchange for more lenient punishments. Armstrong said in the first part of the interview that he knew his "fate was sealed" when his most trusted lieutenant, George Hincapie, who was alongside him for all seven Tour wins between 1999-2005, was forced to give Armstrong up to anti-doping authorities,

"So I got a death penalty and they got ... six months," Armstrong resumed. "I'm not saying that that's unfair, necessarily, but I'm saying it's different."

Armstrong said the most "humbling" moment in the aftermath of the USADA report was leaving Livestrong lest his association damage the foundation's ability to raise money and continue its advocacy programs on behalf of cancer victims.

Originally called the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the cyclist created it the year after he was diagnosed with a form of testicular cancer that had spread to his brain and lungs. Doctors gave him 50-50 odds of surviving.

"I wouldn't at all say forced out, told to leave," he said of Livestrong. "I was aware of the pressure. But it hurt like hell. ...

"That was the lowest," Armstrong said. "The lowest."

Armstrong's personal fortune had sustained a big hit days earlier. One by one, his sponsors called to end their associations with him: Nike; Trek Bicycles; Giro, which manufactures cycling helmets and other accessories; Anheuser-Busch.

"That was a $75 million day," Armstrong said.

"That just went out of your life," Winfrey said.

"Gone."

"Gone?" Winfrey repeated.

"Gone," he replied, "and probably never coming back."

So was there a moral to his story?

"I can look at what I did," he said. "Cheating to win bike races, lying about it, bullying people. Of course, you're not supposed to do those things. That's what we teach our children."

Armstrong paused to compose himself before a final mea culpa.

"I just think it was about the ride and losing myself, getting caught up in that, and doing all those things along the way that enabled that," he said. "The ultimate crime is, uh, is the betrayal of those people that supported me and believed in me.

"They got lied to."

The TRUTH about SIM Box Fraud | Ghanamma.com

The name SIM Box Fraud is what the Ghana media has created for the activity of VOIP.

VoIP is a technology that allows telephone calls to be made over computer networks like the Internet. VoIP converts analog voice signals into digital data packets and supports real-time, two-way transmission of conversations using Internet Protocol (IP).

VoIP calls can be made on the Internet using a VoIP service provider and standard computer audio systems. Alternatively, some service providers support VoIP through ordinary telephones that use special adapters to connect to a home computer network. Many VoIP implementations are based on the H.323 technology standard.

Is it a crime in Ghana to use Skype? Is it a crime to use Viber on iPhone?s in Ghana? Is it also a crime in Ghana to use Google Talk to make calls? So why are the Anti Fraud Unit of the National Telecommunications Authority (NCA), the telecom service provider, and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service fighting a US-based company, UPM Telecom?

As a Professional Network Engineer with successful years of experience and practice, I think the National Communication Authority and the Ministry of Communication should fight the telecommunication companies in Ghana than fighting UPM and over hundreds of invisible operators in West Africa.

Fighting UPM Telecom alone is like fighting a wind, the Ghanaian public needs to be educated on what SIM Box fraud is as we call it now, Our telecommunication companies here in Ghana rather steals and fraud us subscribers and as if that is not enough, give us a poor service without any questions been ask.

Let?s face a fact here, those who fraud this country are not UPM Telecom group who based in United States of America, we should stop blaming them whiles the main fraudsters are the same people who are the complaints here.

Every SIM Box Fraud arrest the police make, they get a staff or IT person from Airtel or Vodafone as a team member of the arrested group, even a former UT Bank IT guy was arrested for this kind of fraud but simply because UPM is open and are on social media platforms, everybody mentions them and tag them when it comes to SIM Box Fraud which wrong.

The reason why I decided to defend UPM is because I read a lot of negative things about UPM Telecom more often on the internet and in our Ghanaians newspapers but the truth are that, This UPM Telecom don?t even use SIM?S as other telecoms do but rather uses VOIP to operate in USA.

If there is any SIM Box fraud, we should hold Gateway Communications, MTN (Scancom), Tigo (Milicom), Expresso, Vodafone, Glo Ghana and most especially Airtel to be responsible for SIM Box fraud.

SIM Box fraud is a system by which some persons re-route international calls coming to Ghana through some boxes in which they have inserted local SIM cards, and they terminate the calls using those SIM cards, to make the call appear as a local call.

So, for instance, often times an international call appears as a 0266XXXXXX number, meaning the SIM Box fraudster is terminating the call through an Airtel SIM card.

And UPM Telecom doesn?t use any SIM from any telecommunication company in Ghana but ONLY uses VOIP.

Voice over IP (VoIP, abbreviation of voice over Internet Protocol) commonly refers to the communication protocols, technologies, methodologies, and transmission techniques involved in the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Other terms commonly associated with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, IP communications, and broadband phone.

Internet telephony refers to communications services ?voice, fax, SMS, and/or voice-messaging applications? that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The steps involved in originating a VoIP telephone call are signaling and media channel setup, digitization of the analog voice signal, encoding, packetization, and transmission as Internet Protocol (IP) packets over a packet-switched network. On the receiving side, similar steps (usually in the reverse order) such as reception of the IP packets, decoding of the packets and digital-to-analog conversion reproduce the original voice stream. Even though IP telephony and VoIP are used interchangeably, IP telephony refers to all use of IP protocols for voice communication by digital telephony systems, while VoIP is one technology used by IP telephony to transport phone calls.

Early providers of voice over IP services offered business models (and technical solutions) that mirrored the architecture of the legacy telephone network. Second generation providers, such as Skype have built closed networks for private user bases, offering the benefit of free calls and convenience, while denying their users the ability to call out to other networks. This has severely limited the ability of users to mix-and-match third-party hardware and software. Third generation providers, such as Google Talk have adopted the concept of Federated VoIP ? which is a complete departure from the architecture of the legacy networks. These solutions typically allow arbitrary and dynamic interconnection between any two domains on the Internet whenever a user wishes to place a call.

I personally don?t have problem with companies or telecoms using VOIP because it?s not a crime, until Ghana Police Service, Telecoms in Ghana, National Communication Authority and Ministry of Communication start to fight Skype, Google Talk and Viber among other software?s, we have to deal with our own communication companies instead of fighting UPM Telecom and other hidden telecommunications groups using VOIP to communicate to make calls cheaper and easy. This is just part one and secrets of our Ghanaian Telecommunications will be reveal soon.

Latest FIFA Ranking: Ghana Starts AFCON As Africa's 4th-Best Ranked Side

Ghana will begin the New Year and the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as the continent's fourth-best ranked team.

The Black Stars are 4th in the African placements - just like they finished the previous year - in the first edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released on Thursday.

Having moved up four places, the Black Stars now have an accumulated point build up of 788, thus 11 more points from the previous ranking and they are behind Ivory Coast, Algeria and Mali in that order.

In the world ranking, the Black Stars are now positioned at 26th from the previous 30th position.

World champions, Spain, start the year as the number one side ahead of Germany and Argentina.

FIFA says only 46 matches were included in the Ranking since the last ranking in December.

And 18 of the games took place in 2012, with the remaining 28 being played in the first half of January 2013.

Golf: Sluggish starts for McIlroy and Woods

ABU DHABI: Rory McIlory and Tiger Woods both looked short of form on Thursday as they opened their 2013 campaigns at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

World No.1 McIlroy, playing for the first time in competition with his new Nike golf clubs had two double-bogeys en route to a three-over par 75 that left him trailing down in 62nd place

Second-ranked Woods was wayward off the tee as he matched four birdies with four bogeys to come in at level par.

The third member of the day's marquee grouping, three-times former winner at Abu Dhabi Martin Kaymer, bettered them both with a one under 69 that left him four shots off the early pace set by Jamie Donaldson of Wales.

Europe's choice of Paul McGinley as captain for the defence of the trophy at Gleneagles, Scotland in 2014 had dominated most of the build-up to a tournament which has become a platform for the top players to open their seasons.

But the focus in perfect, early morning conditions switched to McIlroy and Woods, who now find themselves as stablemates of sportswear giant Nike following the Northern Irishman's mega-money deal with the US company announced here on Monday.

How he would fare with his new clubs was one of the talking points of the day. He had a solid enough start but things took a distinct turn for the worse at the short 15th (his sixth hole) where McIlroy sent it way long and right.

The 23-year-old Ulsterman looked shocked at how far off target he was and he promptly failed to find the green with his chip from thick rough.

The result was a double bogey five and a three shot swing in favour of Woods and Kaymer, who both had birdies.

McIlroy remained at three behind his playing partners at the turn, but it was Woods' turn to struggle as he topped his drive off the 1st tee and failed to even reach the fairway 180 yards away.

The American eventually had back-to-back bogeys to start his back nine, allowing McIlroy to draw level with him at level par but the world No.1 then hit a wild drive out of bounds at the third and had to go back to the tee.

A second double bogey was his punishment as he fell back to two over with Woods at level par and Kaymer at two under.

McIlroy was in trouble again after finding thick rough off the tee at the par-five eighth. He only managed to squirt the ball into a bunker on the other side of the fairway which resulted in another bogey.

Woods birdied that hole with a long putt to duck under par but he three putted the last. McIlroy missed a short birdie putt and both players were shaking their heads ruefully as they completed what had had been frustrating first rounds of the season.

Kaymer found water off the tee and had to settle for a bogey to finish with.

How to Invest in Vacant Land and Win Big - Commercial Real Estate ...

How to Invest in Vacant Land and Win Big

No Gravatar

Many commercial property investors dream of buying a plot of vacant land and turning it into a thriving commercial real estate enterprise. ?It?s hard to beat the satisfaction and sense of achievement you feel when you pass a building or shopping plaza and can say to yourself and others, ?I built that!?

Land development is also a way to take a small amount of money and turn it into a large return on your investment. However, not everything in land development is sunshine and roses.

As in any investment, there are pros and cons.

The best way to develop a vacant property is by changing its allowed use or zoning ? making the land more profitable without investing any money.

How often have you seen a line of stores followed by an empty lot and another line of stores??The reason that lot sits vacant could be because it?s currently zoned for a nonconforming use; it may be a remnant of a formerly all-residential street, or it may be zoned for another use that?doesn?t??fit? with current area businesses.

Normally this land sits for years with a huge For Sale sign in front.?Chances are anyone who does their due diligence will discover the current zoning situation and move on to an easier deal.?They are missing an amazing opportunity; usually this land can be picked up for 25% of the price of nearby lots.

If you do snap it up, all you need now is to be patient and play the bureaucracy game. Apply for a rezoning permit and work to get it zoned in accordance with the other properties on the block.?This takes time and determination, but if you stick to it and it is rezoned, you will have instantly quadrupled your investment.

One of the most important things to be aware of when deciding to invest in a particular property is the potential for environmental hazards on the land.?Just because the land looks fine now and there?s nothing nearby that could have caused a hazard?doesn?t?mean one?doesn?t?exist. Often properties located a mile or more away can have an impact on the lot you are considering purchasing.

For example, they may have had contaminants that got into the groundwater, coursed underground and pooled up under your lot.?Buy it and it?s your responsibility to get it cleaned up. So an environmental study should be a vital part of your due diligence.

Another potential problem is dealing with the local community. Residents don?t always welcome ?big box? retail stores.?They feel they take away from the charm of the community and impact negatively on the local businesses already present.

Fact is, you may have the best investment strategy for your land, but if the community protests the plan, then you are going to find yourself in a losing battle.?When you are planning on building a large-scale project, it?s best to conduct focus groups BEFORE committing, to see how the community feels about your project.
