Adults with disabilities help others in need - Winnetka-Glencoe, IL ...

Local teens and adults from Our Place continued their tradition of community service by ?adopting? two families from the New Trier Township holiday program. These families face significant challenges, including unemployment, children with developmental disabilities, parents with health issues and grandparents needing care.

The Our Place participants and their families shopped, wrapped and delivered bags full of presents and gift cards with a value in excess of $3,000 to the two families. ?While the identities of the two adopted families was kept secret, our participants responded very personally to the needs of the children and felt good about helping others,? said Stacia Swan, Program Director.

?Because we are so tied to our local community we welcome the opportunity to give back. This is the third year we have participated in this program as it?s important for our teens and adults to experience the joy of helping others,? said Jane Gallery, parent and Board President.

Our Place supports teens and adults with developmental disabilities so they can live meaningful, productive, socially connected lives in their home community, with vocational, skill building and enrichment programs. Our Place is located in New Trier Township and serves over 50 participants, representing communities from Evanston to Lake Forest, and as far west as Morton Grove and Deerfield.
